Effective December 2, 2024, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires applicants filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to include Form I-693, Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, at the time of submission. Failure to provide Form I-693 concurrently with Form I-485 may result in the rejection of the application.
This policy change aims to streamline the adjudication process by reducing the need for Requests for Evidence (RFEs) related to missing medical documentation. Applicants must undergo a medical examination conducted by a USCIS-designated civil surgeon, who will complete and sign Form I-693 to confirm the applicant meets health-related admissibility standards.
Key Points for Applicants:
Immediate Action Required:Â Ensure that Form I-693 is completed and signed by a designated civil surgeon before filing Form I-485. Submit both forms together to avoid application rejection.
Validity of Form I-693:Â Forms signed by a civil surgeon on or after November 1, 2023, are valid indefinitely. Forms signed before this date remain valid for two years from the date of the civil surgeon's signature.
Vaccination Requirements:Â Applicants must comply with vaccination requirements as assessed during the medical examination. The civil surgeon will document compliance on Form I-693.
